2025/26 Academic Year
In this section, you will find all the official and up-to-date information about the academic year.
When does academic year start?
The academic year officially begins on 14 October 2025. On that day, the Master's programme will be introduced.
When do classes start?
You can download the academic calendar by selecting the option: "Academic Calendar" at the beginning of this section.
Classes officially start on 14 October 2025.
At 16:30 that day, the first session of Economic Foundations of European Integration will begin, followed by the first session of History of the European Union Integration Process at 18:30.
What is the timetable?
You can download the class timetable by selecting the option: "Class Timetable" at the beginning of this section.
As a general rule, classes take place from Monday to Thursday, from 16:30 to 20:30, in Room 24B of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Málaga.
Is it possible to complete the Master's remotely?
Unfortunately, this is not currently possible. Therefore, in-person attendance is mandatory.
What are complementary activities?
Complementary activities are activities carried out in addition to the core Master's curriculum, and they may vary depending on the needs of the group. These can range from seminars to workshop-visits to various facilities, but they are always related to the subjects addressed in the Master's.
Are complementary activities compulsory?
Complementary activities are part of the academic year and, therefore, of the academic programme. Although they do not affect the final mark, they may be noted in the academic transcript, if applicable, attendance is strongly recommended in order to build networks and broaden your understanding of the European Union and its functions.
What happens if I fail a first exam attempt?
When you enrol in an academic year, you are entitled to two exam sittings.
If you fail the first sitting, you still have the second one, which takes place from 15 June to 1 July.
When should I start my Master's Tesis (TFM)?
This is a personal decision and each student will choose a different starting point.
We recommend reviewing the list of topics on the Virtual Campusto see if your preferred topic is already included.
If your topic is not included, contact the academic staff whose expertise aligns with your area of interest.
A good time to start thinking about your topic and potential supervisor would be between December and January, taking advantage of the winter holidays.
How do the curricular placements work?
Curricular placements consist of the following elements:
- Minimum hours: A minimum of 145 hours is required.
- Placement centre: You may either choose from the options offered by the Master's placement coordination team, or find a placement independently.
- In the first case, you must request your preferred placement from the coordination team.
- In the second case, you must contact the centre of interest to check whether they have an agreement with the University of Málaga. If not, you should ask them to contact the Ícaro Platform for guidance on establishing one. Once agreed, they should post the offer on Ícaro and you should inform the placement coordination team so your placement can be assigned. This process can be completed until the first week of March.
- Placement period: We recommend doing your placement in May, when there are fewer classes. However, placements can be carried out at any time during the academic year.
- Placement validation: Placements may be validated (recognised as fulfilling the practical training requirement of the Master's), but the process can be slow and is not guaranteed. Validation is only granted if the placement is directly related to the subjects covered in the Master's, so we strongly recommend completing the official Master's placements.
- After completing the placement, students are required to submit a report. This document should evaluate the experience and provide a brief summary of the activities undertaken.
How is the graduation ceremony organised?
The graduation ceremony is not organised by the Master's management team, except for covering the cost of the sashes and the photography/video service. However, students from the 2024/25 academic year have provided the following information:
- It is strongly recommended to have a class representative and a vice-representative to attend the meetings held throughout the year.
- A member of the Dean's Office team, currently Ms Francisca María García Lopera, will contact the class representative.
- A meeting will be held with representatives from all Master's programmes and the Dean's Office member to set the graduation date.
- Later, the representative will be asked to select a Patron of the class (a lecturer who will give a speech about the academic year and mention the students) and one or two student representatives (who will give a short speech).
- A PowerPoint presentation with photos of the graduating students will also be required for the roll call (going up on stage to receive the diploma and the sash). It is recommended to use the graduation photo for consistency in style.
- Finally, a meeting will be held between the representatives and the Dean's Office member to establish the protocol for the event.
The graduation photo is independent from the ceremony. Students from the 2024/25 academic year had theirs taken at miorla, a professional photography studio in Málaga.
